A southwest Calgary Sunterra Market store has been given until June 14 to clean up mouse droppings, dirty surfaces and still water following an inspection in May.

An online Alberta Health Services work order dated June 3 shows a verbal warning was issued to the manager of the 49th Avenue location for multiple Public Health Act violations.

The warning was issued May 31 after an inspector observed mouse droppings in the store and grime and food debris on surfaces in the deli, bakery and storage room, according to the notice. Water was found pooling on the floor in several areas and the inspector noted that produce was being kept in boxes directly on the floor.

The order states pest traps had been moved and not returned to the wall, and there were gaps at the base of the loading door docks.

Chris Alladin, Sunterra's chief operating officer, said the company prides itself on food safety and quality and that it's working with AHS and other partners to implement all aspects of the health order.

“We expect to have all the noted comments on the order completed as quickly as possible,” said Alladin.

AHS has given the market until June 14 to hire a professional pest control company to clean the store and a professional plumber to find and fix the source of pooling water. They must also disinfect all surfaces that may have been contaminated and must not allow garbage or food debris to build up.
