Bugatti offers street-legal Chiron Sport

- ALEX REID

Bugatti is ready to sell you a new road-legal version of its record-breaking supercar, and it'll only cost you $4.7 million.

The Chiron Super Sport's body is styled after that of the 300-m.p.h. (483-km/h) barrier-breaking test car, and features a long tail section that's been extended by 10 inches.

The front area has also been modified extensively, with a new splitter, plus there are new air curtains and rear diffuser. All these changes add down force to keep the vehicle stuck to the road when extremely high speeds are demanded.

More bespoke touches have been added purely for styling purposes, such as the vents behind the front wheels that ape the limited-edition Centodieci. Inside the cabin is a symphony of leather, aluminum and carbon fibre befitting a car made to take you where you need to go in complete comfort.

The Chiron is powered by an 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W-16, here producing 1,577 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque.

A few upgrades have been made to the old workhorse, which result in a heightened red line of 7,100 rpm. Seventh gear has also been made higher, for a higher top speed. Speaking of top speed — which is what this Bugatti is all about — the Chiron Super Sport can reach a staggering 440 km/h (273 m.p.h.), and it won't take it very long to do so: 200 km/h (124 m.p.h.) arrives in just 5.8 seconds from a standstill, and in 12.1 seconds the car can be travelling at 300 km/h (186 m.p.h.).
