Two girls dead, two hospitaliz­ed in rollover

Single-vehicle crash occurred when SUV left Range Road 32, RCMP report

Two teens were killed and two others sent to hospital in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash west of Calgary just after midnight Thursday, Cochrane RCMP say.

The incident happened on Range Road 32 between township roads 250 and 251A around 12:30 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found two occupants of a black SUV dead. Two others were taken to Foothills Hospital.

Police confirmed all four victims were females between the ages of 16 and 17 years old.

STARS air ambulance was used to transport one victim to hospital, while the other was taken by ground ambulance. The driver of the vehicle remains in life-threatenin­g condition, and the other is now in stable condition.

RCMP say the vehicle left the road and rolled over.

Police are working to positively identify the four young women, and Cochrane victim services has been contacted to support the families.

“It is too early to tell what factors may have contribute­d to this collision,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP said in a news release.

“Our heartfelt condolence­s go out to the families, friends, schools and communitie­s that are affected.”

The crash remains under investigat­ion and all possible causes are being explored. Range Road 32 was closed for a few hours Thursday.
