Shelby's Ford F-150 gets supercharged
Any vehicle with the name Shelby appended to its title is probably going to be a bit over the top in terms of horsepower and styling.
The 2021 Shelby F-150 starts with a short-box Supercrew in Lariat trim before going to town with performance and visual upgrades. Using the 5.0-litre V-8 Coyote engine as its base, the Shelby speed freaks add a Borla exhaust system with snazzy tips to make the truck bellow like Chewbacca on a bad fur day.
The optional supercharger upgrade jacks it to 775 horsepower thanks to a unit from Whipple, plus a performance air intake and high-flow fuel injectors.
The crew at Shelby have specified that the optional supercharger is of the “post-title sales” variety, meaning they don't put a wrench to that upgrade until the vehicle is in your name. Yes, there's still a three-year warranty on the works, though some of this kit might void the Ford warranty, Shelby notes.
A Fox-branded suspension system is installed, which includes FOX 2.5 internal-bypass dampers front and rear with adjustable controls. Shelby describes their variable settings as proprietary, ranging from “luxury smooth” to off-road or track handling. A BDS lift system rides on 35-inch Bfgoodrich KO2 tires on 22-inch alloy wheels.
The interior is equally swanky, with red accents and lavishly upholstered seats.
Styling is typical extrovert.
It'll cost well into six figures, and Shelby will make only 600 of them. Driving.ca
