Stamps add depth to lineup with Roberson, Begelton

This feels weird to say.

But with two games remaining in the regular season, the Calgary Stampeders appear to be healthy. Remarkably so, even.

This late in a football season, it's inevitable that players are going to be fighting through some nicks and bruises. That's true of the Stampeders (6-6) as they try to clinch a playoff berth in Friday's pivotal tilt with the B.C. Lions (4-8) in Vancouver.

There are guys dealing with longterm injuries, too.

But look at the Stampeders depth chart for Friday's game and you'll find that just about every single expected starter on both offence and defence is available.

“We made a few choices in the back end and at receiver, but that was by choice with Tre (Roberson) and Reggie (Begelton),” said Stamps head coach Dave Dickenson. “I think right now we're feeling like our guys are pretty healthy for this year and to make a run at it.”

The Stamps have added to their depth with the recent additions of Roberson at boundary corner and Begelton at wide receiver. For Friday's game, they'll also get starting left tackle Ucambre Williams back, along with kick returner Malik Henry.

Last week's bye-week has the Stamps rested and ready to potentially put the Lions away for good and, for all intents and purposes.

At this point in the season, that feels like something of a miracle.

SOME BAD NEWS

While it's largely positive on the injury front for the Stamps, there was some bad news on Friday with the team adding offensive lineman Nila Kasitati to the six-game injured list.

Kasitati was effective as a starter while Julian Good-jones was on the six-game list, although he's largely been used as a backup tackle in the weeks since. He was a pretty vital depth piece, though, and the Stamps would definitely have liked to have had him just in case Good-jones or Ucambre Williams went down.

“His knee went in the first or second quarter (of the Stamps' last game against the Ottawa Redblacks),” Dickenson said. “He'd been battling through it and then, obviously, it was a more severe injury in that game.”

The Stamps also announced earlier in this week that special teamer Nick Statz would be undergoing surgery next week and is out for the remainder of the season.
