Heady Calgary's LOOK 2022 raises almost $1M

- BILL BROOKS

One has to know that when an invitation reads Dress Code: Fabulous, head-turning visuals are guaranteed. And indeed they were, but this was only one of the many highlights at Contemporary Calgary's LOOK 2022 held on June 11. Fabulous food, libation, drag performances, silent and live auction items and an over-the-top after-party ensured the event was not soon to be forgotten. It's nothing short of amazing that the Studio 54-themed bash raised nearly $1 million.

Such success happens only when a dedicated army of staff, sponsors, artists and volunteers unite for a common cause — that being the importance of arts and culture in our fair city. So take a well-deserved bow event chair Kelly Streit, Mode Models founder and CEO and a board member of Contemporary Calgary; Peter Tertzakian, board chair; David Leinster, Contemporary Calgary CEO; honorary event chairs Douglas Coupland, Ann Mccaig, Kelly Oxford and Adrian Stimson; vice-chairs Kim Berjian and Erin Donnelly-ferguson; and committee members Alexandra Burroughs, Chris Cran, Deb Kerr, Kevin Krausert, Ellen Parker, Carol Ryder and Elizabeth Carson, to name but a few.

Kudos as well to invaluable sponsors: presenting sponsor National Bank Private Banking 1859; Factory Dinner sponsor Holt Renfrew; food and beverage sponsor Concorde Entertainment Group; art auction sponsors Heather Bala Edwards and k.d. lang; Andy Warhol One Night Only sponsor Masters Gallery; Studio 54 reception sponsor Mawer; and after-party sponsor Greta Bar & Arcade, to name some.

The evening's highly anticipated live auction delivered on every level. Christie's International consultant Brett Sherlock expertly worked the room, drawing out enthusiasm for Contemporary Calgary and contemporary art.

Highlights included the work of 24 renowned artists such as Kent Monkman, Harry Kiyooka and Angela Grossmann, whose work fetched $30,000, nearly twice the listed price. All in all, the art auction raised more than $425,000.

Others in attendance included: art collector Dell Pohlman; Concorde Group's Victor

Choy and his wife Diane; Don Kottmann; John Will; Monica Stevens; Sharon Martens; Tiktok star William White; supermodels Shayna Mcneill and Awar Odhiang; Misty Meadows-gurl; Zoe Theodorou; Paul Kuhn and Esther Krasnow; Rich Waller and his wife Jane Mccaig with their daughter Emma Waller; Roxanne Mccaig with her daughter Ann-francis Mccaig; Mawer's Andrew Johnson, Allison Webb and Paul Moroz with his wife Carla Moroz; Chloe Streit; Shell Canada Country chair Susannah Pierce; Joel Poissant; Wayne and Liz Henuset; Scott and Suzanne Henuset; and others pictured on this page and online at calgaryherald.com.
