CHATTERS, John Arthur

John Chatters, beloved husband of Rita Chatters, of Westlock, Alberta, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2022, at the age of 80 years.

John was born at Mrs. Armstrong’s Nursing Home in Jarvie, Alberta on July 27, 1942, and raised on the Chatters farm, the second oldest of nine children. After graduating high school and a year at SAIT technical school, John began his career in the Oil patch as an apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic. On August 16, 1963, John married Rita Rembish in Red Deer, Alberta.

After receiving his Mechanic and Millwright’s license, he joined Mobil Oil Canada and worked his way up from Mechanic to Maintenanc­e Foreman to Maintenanc­e Specialist, located in Whitecourt, Alberta and then transferre­d to Calgary. After 33 years John retired but continued as a consultant with Exxonmobil, which took him to places like Equatorial Guinea in Africa, Sidney Australia, and Papua New Guinea. John and Rita retired to a large lot on the golf course in Westlock, where they enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, maintainin­g their yard and their quarter of farmland in the Jarvie area.

John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Rita; his children Robin (Krista); Nancy (Conrad), grandchild­ren Dylan and Evan, Sisters Maryellen (Brian); Barbara; Judy (Myles); Jennifer (Lloyd); Brothers Chris and Philip. John was predecease­d by his parents Len and Doris, brothers David and Robin and three sisters-in-law.

Cremation will take place, and a private Family Graveside service will be held at a later date, with interment in the Jarvie Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for the Jarvie Community Cemetery c/o D. Budgen 9916-99 Street, Westlock, AB T7P 1Z1, or the Canadian Cancer society.
