STYLISH DUPLEX DESIGNED TO FIT DIFFERING NEEDS

Flexible floor plan options can be tweaked to suit at The Carter by Morrison Homes

- JOSH SKAPIN

In some cases, a home model may have the majority of what one has their heart set on, apart from a few characteristics.

Instead of moving on to something else, a few key tweaks can do the trick. The Carter by Morrison Homes has floor plan options that offer significant changes to match the needs of one's living arrangement, without losing the characteristics that make it stand out.

This 1,387-square-foot duplex is presently displayed in the new Calgary community of Glacier Ridge. The model is also available in the northeast community of Cornerstone.

The show home depicts a three bedroom second floor, which is an option for this model and adds 15 sq. ft to the level.

One of the secondary bedrooms, which sit side-by-side, boasts a walk-in closet.

Its standard orientation has two master bedrooms. One is 11 ft three inches by 11 ft nine inches and the other is 11 ft three inches by 10 ft two inches, with a portion reaching 11 ft nine inches. The latter is the same size as the master bedroom in the three-bedroom version of the second level.

The double master works well for a number of living arrangements, including an owner and rental tenant, and parent with an adult child. Some may use the extra master as a guest room and/or home office. They are each equipped with a small sitting area, ideal for curling up with a good novel. In both cases, the sitting area lines up with one of the room's multiple windows.

Moreover, the bedrooms each have an ensuite and well-sized walk-in closet, accessed off separate walls. Each ensuite has a tub and shower unit.

In the show home, there's laundry room with front-load washer and dryer located two steps down from the second level. This opens

square footage on the second storey to be used for other purposes.

A rectangle-shaped window over the staircase to the first level add the warmth of sunshine to the second floor hallway and the stairs.

While many open-concept orientations put the dining area either down the middle or along the back of the main floor, in the standard version of this home,

it's positioned next to towering front-facing windows.

In the show home, however, the central dining area is flanked by a rear-facing L-shaped kitchen and great room up front.

The combination of the kitchen's island and long stretches of counter space deliver an opportunity to comfortably spread out ingredients and other items when preparing a meal. This supports the

ability for the cooking experience to be a team effort.

Kitchen features include stainless steel appliances, such as a chimney-style hoodfan, and a stylish full-height tile backsplash. The sink sits beneath a well-sized window that overlooks the backyard, making it easy to keep an eye on children playing outside while washing and putting away dishes.

The bright, welcoming great

room measures 10 ft four inches by 16 ft 10 inches and is shown with an optional elongated electric fireplace.

Glacier Ridge is located in a scenic end of northwest Calgary. This part of the city is stocked with shopping and dining amenities, including ones located at Beacon Hill Centre, Creekside Shopping Centre, and Sage Hill Quarter Shopping Centre.
