Logan 18’s spacious and well-designed kitchen offers families plenty of room to gather
A lot of families want to prepare dinner together, but just don’t have space in the kitchen to make this work. Particularly when there’s movement involved, multiple chefs in a smaller cooking space is rarely a successful mix.
When possible, however, this can be a bonding experience, as parents and their children discuss their days at work and school, respectively, while chopping and seasoning.
It’s easy to envision this in a new show home by Jayman Built in the northwest Calgary community of Ambleton. The Logan 18 is 1,571 square feet and has three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.
Its kitchen is spacious and L-shaped, offering two entry points, which is useful when multiple people are in motion.
Along both of its walls are generous stretches of counter space, offering several options for placing pots, pans, cutting boards and ingredients.
Counters along the rear wall are beneath expansive windows, allowing the domestic chef to keep an eye on their younger children if they are playing in the backyard. A sink is under these windows, as well.
The kitchen’s island supports the dinner preparation function. It also features an eating bar with seating for at least three people.
A design decision that opens more room for counters is the positioning of the walk-in pantry. It is found on the wall across from the other kitchen components, rather than taking up space among them.
The kitchen is part of an open-concept main level that includes a central dining area and front-facing great room.
Featuring an elegant elongated fireplace with a TV mounted above it, the great room reaches 10 ft 11 inches by eight ft. As seen in the show home, these dimensions support several pieces of furniture.
This home demonstrates a way in which its owners can help offset mortgage payments. The developed basement is presented with a legal suite. Much like an apartment, in addition to its bedroom, bathroom and rec area, it is self-sustaining with a laundry area and kitchen.
The kitchen is shown with stainless steel appliances, including an over-the-range hoodfan, and a white tile backsplash with contrasting dark grout.
This suite is ideal for a rental tenant. In fact, the show home displays a side entrance, giving the tenant direct access to stairs that lead to the suite. This avoids the need for a tenant to walk through the main floor to reach these stairs.
A central flex space divides the second level into two wings, with the primary bedroom on one end and secondary bedrooms on the other. This delivers an additional layer of privacy.
This flex space is staged with some furniture and a TV, but it could be set up with a couple of small desks as a dedicated homework centre.
The primary bedroom measures 11 ft six inches by 11 ft and boasts a walk-in closet and ensuite. Located side by side, the secondary bedrooms are only a few steps from both a full bathroom and laundry area.
Featuring a stacked front-load washer and dryer, the location of the laundry area avoids the need to carry heavy baskets of laundry far.
