Postmedia Calgary receives two international journalism honours
Postmedia Calgary was named a finalist in two categories of the prestigious International News Media Association (INMA) awards on Tuesday.
The first honour came in the Global Media Awards category for best use of social media, in which deputy editor Monica Zurowski used three social platforms to retell and refresh the story of the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and area.
The project also included the publication of readers' memories and photos on the 35th anniversary of the Games in February 2023.

The second honour arrived for photojournalist/videographer Mike Drew, for his weekly On the Road feature, in the category of best new video product or feature. Each week, Drew heads out of town to explore roads less travelled and showcase the natural wonders of Alberta.
Drew won the INMA award in this category two years ago. This is the seventh time in eight years that Postmedia Calgary has been a finalist in the video category.
Overall, Postmedia Calgary has garnered 20 finalist nominations and wins in the INMA awards since 2010.
This year, it's one of only three Canadian news organizations recognized by INMA.
“This year's Global Media Awards was highly competitive, with emerging themes focusing on breakthroughs in AI, newsrooms, young readers and more,” said Earl J. Wilkinson, executive director and CEO of INMA.
“This class of finalists represents the best in the business of news, and we are proud to champion the mission of outstanding journalism.”
This annual awards competition garnered 771 entries from 245 news brands in 43 countries, with finalists coming from Africa, Asia/pacific, Europe, Latin America, South Asia and North America.
Winners will be announced April 25 in London.
