Alec Baldwin opens up about his drug-addled past

-

Alec Baldwin has compared his cocaine addiction to drinking coffee, admitting he snorted the drug “all day long” for two years.

The actor has spoken candidly about his issues with drug and alcohol addiction after celebrating 39 years sober, revealing he snorted enormous amounts of the powder.

During an appearance on the Our Way With Paul Anka and Skip Bronson podcast, Baldwin said: “I don't discuss this a lot. I discuss it every now and then when it makes sense. I'm 39 years sober. I got sober Feb. 23, 1985.”

Baldwin went on to explain that his issues with cocaine started after he moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1983, and the habit soon took over his life.

“I had a white-hot problem every day for two years. I think I snorted a line of cocaine from here to Saturn ... Did one on the rings of Saturn, then we came home — we took it back home.

“I mean, cocaine was like coffee back then. Everybody was doing it all day long.”

Baldwin eventually gave up drugs, but then his drinking spiralled out of control. The actor ended up having to give up booze too and he admitted it's the one thing he misses.

“I don't miss drugs at all, but I do miss drinking. I like to drink,” he said.

When asked what he does now instead of drinking, Baldwin revealed he likes to meditate, but it's tricky to find peace and quiet at home with the children he shares with wife Hilaria Baldwin.

“I do try to meditate. (But) meditating with seven children is like trying to play ping-pong on the deck of an aircraft carrier.”
