Lucile’s legacy. Monitoring the Chilkoot Trail. Rebuilding a Hurricane. Taken at face value.

It is so wonderful, your feature on Canada’s fashion queen (“Fashion’s Queen,” February-March 2020). My grandmother Berthe Boucher lost her husband to the 1918 flu in Montreal. She went into the rag trade, sewing in sleeves and being paid per sleeve. At the end of her first day, she owed money. She became a couturier to a select clientele, including me. I cherish the first communion dress she made me in 1956. Thank you for spotlighting our courageous women.
