AT THE MUSEUMS
The Ones We Met: Inuit Traditional Knowledge and
the Franklin Expedition continues until May 24 at Château Ramezay — Historic Site and Museum of Montréal. It highlights memories Inuit shared for generations of meetings with sick and starving men and visits to an abandoned ship locked in the ice, such as in this watercolour illustration by Inuit artist Heather Campbell of Nunatsiavut (Labrador).
The Fashion History Museum in Cambridge, Ontario, presents the exhibition WARdrobe from March 18 to December 20. It looks at how war has influenced fashion throughout history and includes examples of Canadian Women’s Army Corps uniforms, industrial overalls, fashionable dress, and even anti-war fashion.
Enclosing Some Snapshots: The Photography of Métis
Activist James Brady opens March 21 at the Glenbow in Calgary. Curated by Paul Seesequasis, whose Indigenous Archival Photo Project celebrates the resilience of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities, the exhibition shows photos made between the 1930s and 1960s by political organizer, surveyor, and outdoorsman James Brady.
