Appreciating David Thompson’s legacy. A life worth documenting. Memories of the HBC. Strathcona’s impact.
An explorer’s great legacy I enjoyed your feature story on the Hudson’s Bay Company (“An Epic Tale,” AprilMay 2020), and especially the amount of information you gave about BritishCanadian explorer David Thompson, his explorations, and the many skills he possessed. If memory serves me correctly, many years ago National Geographic did an article on Thompson. Its comment was that, compared to Thompson, American explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were armchair explorers. Coming from a premium American publication, this is a great compliment. Why, as Canadians, do we not honour our great achievers? Thanks for the excellent issue. W.H. Lindsay via email
