HBC’s black-gold era
In spite of what appeared to be a wellresearched article on the history of the Hudson’s Bay Company (“An Epic Tale,” April- May 2020), I was surprised that no mention was made of HBC’s involvement in the oil industry. Hudson’s Bay Oil and Gas was, in the late 1960s, the third-largest Canadian oil company. It was a logical pursuit at the time, given their large land holdings and mineral rights.
