Twelve bucks is about the maximum price diners are willing to pay for dessert in Toronto, but not at La Banane. The restaurant’s $50 Ziggy Stardust Disco Egg—smashed tableside to reveal goodies within—is an Internet sensation. The restaurant sells 20 eggs a night. “I think people enjoy the idea of having permission to destroy something beautiful, especially when you can capture the beauty on a phone before smashing it,” says La Banane chef and chocolatier Brandon Olsen.
