Christian Meier finishes a gruelling second Giro d’italia

-

Christian Meier

of Orica- GreenEdge completed his second Giro d’Italia in May. The Sussex, N. B., rider found the race tougher than last year’s. “This year’s race was quite different with more hilly stages early in the event,” Meier said. “The weather made it more demanding. The transfers were also much longer making for a lot of late nights at the dinner table. On a personal level, I feel I came out of this year’s race better than last year, even though I had to deal with sickness though this year’s edition.”

Ryder Hesjedal, who won the Giro in 2012, started the race strong, but abandoned before the 13th stage because of an upper respiratory tract infection. Other Canadians in the Giro included Meier’s teammate Svein Tuft and fdj rider Dominique Rollin. Rollin ended the event as the highest placed Canadian in 75th.
