Pearls, Bikes and Flowers

-

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PEARLS?

“I don’t wear them much anymore. They are in my jewelry box now. I guess the past few years, I’ve transitioned from being a little girl to a woman now? [laughs] I don’t know how to describe it, but I tend to wear the jewelry my husband gifts to me. My pearls mean everything to me as they were my mom’s when she was growing up and I will cherish them forever.”

HOW MANY BIKES DO YOU RIDE?

“I ride two different race bikes: the Trek Top Fuel and the Trek Procaliber. They are both fantastic, but I tend to lean toward racing the Procal more. I’m just so light that the dually is often too much bike and the difference of two pounds for me is quite noticeable.”

WHAT IS IT ABOUT GARDENING THAT SPEAKS TO YOU?

“Well, first of all, I love being outdoors, and second of all, it’s just so peaceful. I’m a very present person and gardening allows me to do that, focus on that moment, whether I’m weeding, mulching or moving some perennials around. It’s just so nice to slow down sometimes and see how quickly you can make a difference. I think that’s another reason it resonates with me – in my sport, it takes so long to make a change or gain a slight edge on a competitor. You can earn results quickly with gardening. It’s so satisfying.”
