Scott Genius 900 Ultimate $16,000
You’d be hard-pressed to find a bike that has more high-end parts than the Scott Genius 900 Ultimate. This 150-mm trail bike sports a full carbon frame, which is capable of running 27.5+ or 29" tires, and boasts Scott’s own suspension design. The big deal here, however, is the Fox Live Valve electronic suspension system. The fork and shock both have electronically controlled damping, which means that they are independently and continuously adjusted – in milliseconds – as trail conditions change. The parts mix on the Ultimate is without reproach: a full suite of sram XX1 drivetrain components are paired with Shimano xtr M9120 brakes. Giant Trance Advanced Pro 29 0 $8,699
Giant Bicycles has fully embraced the demand for a performance-oriented, mid-travel 29er with its Trance Advanced Pro 29 0. This top-of-the-line model features composite front and rear triangles, and custom-tuned suspension parts from relative newcomer dvo. dvo is run by former Marzocchi head Bryson Martin. The Pro 29 0 sports a 130-mm dvo Sapphire D1 34 fork and a dvo Topaz 2 T3 rear shock that delivers 115 mm of travel. sram X01 Eagle 1 x 12 components and Guide rsc brakes match the high-end frame and suspension. The bike also gets a Rockshox Reverb seatpost, rather than Giant’s own dropper post. The package is topped off with Giant’s trx 0 27.5 Wheelsystem hookless carbon rims and Maxxis Minion 2.3" tires. Specialized S-works Stumpjumper 27.5 $11,839
The Stumpjumper has been around long enough to qualify for legendary status. S-works models sit at the top of the Specialized model line, and this particular 150-mm-travel 27.5" trail bike has all the premium parts from front to back. The all-carbon frame uses Specialized’s 27.5 Trail Geometry and features fully internal cable routing. Suspension duties are handled by a Fox Float 36 Factory fork and Float dpx2 Factory shock, while the drivetrain is all 12-speed sram Eagle XX1, paired with sram Guide rsc brakes. There are a number of high-end Specialized parts on the bike, including the swat Door integrated storage compartment built into the down tube, carbon wheels and tires, bar, grips, saddle and dropper post. Rocky Mountain Instinct Alloy 50 BC Edition $4,999
The Instinct is Rocky’s 29er trail bike. The Alloy 50 BC Edition features more travel than the standard Instinct, along with a burlier parts spec and wider rubber – on an alloy frame, allowing riders to save dollars over the carbon option. You get 160 mm of front travel courtesy of a Fox 36 Float Grip Performance fork and 155 mm of rear travel by way of a Fox Float dpx2 Performance shock. The 12-speed drivetrain is mostly sram GX Eagle, which complements the Race Face AR 30 wheels, burly Maxxis Minion tires and a Race Face Turbine R dropper post.
