TIPS, TRICKS AND ADVICE FROM SOME OF THE COUNTRY’S TOP MOUNTAIN BIKERS THAT YOU CAN USE THIS SEASON

- By Molly Hurford

Canadians have three options when it comes to base-training in the winter and early spring: embrace fat biking, which includes investing in a whole lot of layers and possibly losing your eyelashes when they freeze off; accept that the trainer is going to be your new best friend and start picking shows to stream while you pedal in the basement; or get the hell out and go somewhere warm. Even a week of training in a warmer climate can be hugely beneficial for your mental and emotional outlook on cycling. A high-mileage week in the sun can add a major bump in your base-training block for the season.

Hot spots include North and South Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and, of course, California. Earlier this year, the Cycling Canada Nextgen program brought their top-tier mountain bikers to sunny Socal for an endurance camp. You, too, can follow in their footsteps (pedal strokes?). Find a few like-minded friends who are sick of warding off frostbite, but, before you book your flights and Airbnb lodgings, consider these few tips.
