The Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is known for its intimate – by gran fondo standards – event. Highlighting the best of the Kootenay Mountains, the fondo is put on by the Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club and helps to fund a variety of bikerelated community projects in the region. Each entry includes a filling buffet meal at the finish. This year a beer garden will be in place to quench rider thirst. “In the past, we’ve given money to Northstar Rails to Trails to add amenities to the paths in the region, we’ve built bike racks, and we started a Grade 4 learn-to-ride program,” says Glenn Dobie, the event organizer. It’s an event you don’t want to miss, but sign up soon. Entries are capped at 600 this year.
