One of North America’s biggest gran fondos is even bigger in 2020. The rbc Granfondo Whistler hosts the uci 2020 gran fondo world championships on the scenic and challenging route of the Sea-to-sky corridor between Vancouver and Whistler, B.C. In a sense, there are two events going on. There are the fun rides open to all, just as there has been for the past 10 years. Just sign up. If you want to compete for a rainbow jersey in the world championships, however, you need to qualify, which means finishing in the top 20 per cent of your age group at a sanctioned event. If you haven’t qualified yet, there are a few North American races you can target before September, including Classique des Appalaches in Victoriaville, Que., July 2–4.
