THINK AHEAD FOR TUNEUPS

-

At Spoke Bike and Ski, Jenn Jackson says they really upped their service intake and work-order management game, as well as being more proactive with part ordering. “I think making stronger recommendations to customers to take care of ‘partially worn’ parts to help future-proof their bikes a bit more makes them a bit more receptive without feeling like we’re just trying to upsell,” she explains. “Having a couple spare wear parts is a smart move,” Jackson adds. “I wouldn’t go as far as saying ‘stocking up’ or hoarding, but consider how frequently you go through things, and what kind of accidental fixes you want to cover yourself for. A set of brake pads, shift cable, a couple of spokes, tires, derailleur hanger, chain master link—those would cover things that might keep you from riding.”

Finally, don’t wait until a few days before your first big ride of the season to get your bike serviced. Plan ahead, and of course, be patient.
