TOP ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION HONOURS
Nancy Gillis, an elementary teacher at Toronto’s Cresthaven Public School and a Can Geo Education member, won the prestigious K-12 Educator of the Year Award from the North American Association for Environmental Education in October. Gillis works tirelessly to find creative ways of enhancing the environmental literacy of her students, and runs a number of eco-initiatives in her school, from advocating to make changes to reduce waste and energy use to building solar desk lamps. She was also recently named one of Canada’s Energy Educators of the Year in Can Geo Education’s national Classroom Energy Diet Challenge, which focuses on improving energy awareness among Canadian students.
