Celebrating Canada’s grandeur
A quintessential summer sight across much of the country, the common loon is an enduring Canadian symbol. Besides having graced the nation’s dollar coin since its introduction in 1987, the loon has been the official provincial bird of Ontario since 1994. This picture appears on a coin in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Celebrating Canada’s 150th series. In collaboration with the Mint, Canadian Geographic sourced images for the 13-coin set.
