Olympia oysters have a shell that’s more resilient to ocean acidificat­ion than are the shells of commercial­ly raised oysters in the Pacific Northwest, an Oregon State University study has found. Researcher­s discovered that Olympia oysters, which are found in British Columbia, spend more time developing their shells after fertilizat­ion, which helps protect them from acidic water.
