Nu­navut’s fish­ing in­dus­try are ex­pect­ing more cash in their pock­ets and more tur­bot on the world’s ta­bles in 2017 and 2018, af­ter Fish­eries and Oceans Canada in­creased the to­tal al­low­able catch of the fish by 1,092.5 tonnes in two ar­eas next to Baf­fin Is­land. Jerry Ward, the di­rec­tor of fish­eries at Qik­iq­taaluk Cor­po­ra­tion, an Inuit de­vel­op­ment or­ga­ni­za­tion, told the CBC the new quota rep­re­sents a $7 mil­lion to $8 mil­lion in­crease in rev­enue.
