Three in­stal­la­tions in the RCGS’S free 2018 Sum­mer Ex­hibit se­ries were launched at 50 Sus­sex in late June, run­ning un­til Sept. 15:

EX­PLORE | Con­tem­po­rary artist Chris Cran’s new­est col­lec­tion ( ABOVE) cel­e­brates many of Canada’s great­est ex­plor­ers and RCGS Fel­lows, in­clud­ing RCGS founder Charles Cam­sell, as­tro­naut Roberta Bon­dar and Inuit his­to­rian Louie Kamookak. Af­ter the ex­hibit’s close, the works — painted in Cran’s dy­namic striped style — will be­come part of the RCGS’S per­ma­nent col­lec­tion. LESSONS FROMTHE ARC­TIC | Launched in part­ner­ship with the Nor­we­gian Em­bassy and Oslo’s Fram Mu­seum, this ex­hibit fo­cuses on Nor­way’s le­gendary ex­plorer Roald Amund­sen, first to cross the North­west Pas­sage and to reach the South Pole.

COM­PASS | A 15-me­tre-wide dis­play of ce­ramic sculp­tures to sym­bol­ize the peo­ple of Ot­tawa at the time of Con­fed­er­a­tion — feath­ers for Indige­nous Peo­ples, roses for the British, fleurs-de-lis for the French and birds for other im­mi­grants to Canada.
