SUMMER EXHIBIT SERIES
Three installations in the RCGS’S free 2018 Summer Exhibit series were launched at 50 Sussex in late June, running until Sept. 15:
EXPLORE | Contemporary artist Chris Cran’s newest collection ( ABOVE) celebrates many of Canada’s greatest explorers and RCGS Fellows, including RCGS founder Charles Camsell, astronaut Roberta Bondar and Inuit historian Louie Kamookak. After the exhibit’s close, the works — painted in Cran’s dynamic striped style — will become part of the RCGS’S permanent collection. LESSONS FROMTHE ARCTIC | Launched in partnership with the Norwegian Embassy and Oslo’s Fram Museum, this exhibit focuses on Norway’s legendary explorer Roald Amundsen, first to cross the Northwest Passage and to reach the South Pole.
COMPASS | A 15-metre-wide display of ceramic sculptures to symbolize the people of Ottawa at the time of Confederation — feathers for Indigenous Peoples, roses for the British, fleurs-de-lis for the French and birds for other immigrants to Canada.
