LAUNCH OF THE GREAT TRAIL TREASURE HUNT

With the help of celebrities such as RCGS Explorer-in-residence George Kourounis ( ABOVE), 100 treasure boxes were hidden along The Great Trail between Aug. 26 and Oct. 31 for The Great Trail Treasure Hunt, a celebration marking the one-year anniversary of the trail’s full connection across Canada. During the hunt, which is a partnership between the Trans Canada Trail and the RCGS, location clues were released to help hundreds of seekers, and the first person to find each box received a $100 Mountain Equipment Co-op gift card and a one-year subscription to Canadian Geographic. Weekly draw prizes included Nikon cameras, SPOT GPS devices and KEEN gift cards, and a grand prize draw for a One Ocean Expeditions trip to Labrador and the Torngat Mountains was announced at the RCGS’S College of Fellows Annual Dinner on Nov. 1.
