Fraser River

I was very sad to read your report on the development along the Fraser River (“Delta Forces,” July/august). These developers are a curse. It’s a pity they don’t jump on the eco-bandwagon, because then at least these areas could be saved. I am surprised that the Tsawwassen First Nation is partnering with them, too. I have not been to the Riefel Bird Sanctuary since 2009, and even then I was rather disturbed by the view of cranes and tankers. What will happen when they’ve driven all the fish away, or when every last blade of grass has been covered over with houses, commercial malls and office blocks? Canada is becoming a place of international concern regarding some of its ecological malpractices. Something has to be done to jab at the ribs of those responsible for such thoughtless abuse of the natural world. Sharon Smith Banff, Alta.
