Representa­tions of wildlife gure prominentl­y in Indigenous art and culture. Rattles, such as this Nuu-chah-nulth bird rattle from the west coast of Vancouver Island, are used to accompany songs and chants during ceremonies. This carved wooden rattle dates to the late th century and is part of Park’s Canada’s Yuquot collection of Nuu-chah-nulth artifacts housed in Ottawa. With files from Parks Canada.
