Representations of wildlife gure prominently in Indigenous art and culture. Rattles, such as this Nuu-chah-nulth bird rattle from the west coast of Vancouver Island, are used to accompany songs and chants during ceremonies. This carved wooden rattle dates to the late th century and is part of Park’s Canada’s Yuquot collection of Nuu-chah-nulth artifacts housed in Ottawa. With files from Parks Canada.
