Vikram Misra, a veterinary microbiolo­gist at the University of Saskatchew­an, tells the CBC how little brown bats react to stress caused by diseases such as white-nose syndrome. In a recent study he authored, Misra found that bats infected with both the fungus that causes white-nose syndrome and the M. lucifugus coronaviru­s generated more viruses and shed them at a quicker rate, increasing the chances of spreading certain diseases to humans.
