‘BECAUSE IT TAKES SOME SALTY GUYS
TO CATCH A , POUND WHITE SHARK.’
Chris Fischer, founder of Ocearch, tells the Globe and Mail about a project that enlisted the help of local fishermen to catch and tag notoriously elusive great white sharks off the coast of Nova Scotia in fall 2018. “Scientists can’t catch what they study,” says Fischer. “That’s why we don’t have a good data set.” Ocearch tagged six sharks in total, and researchers will use the collected data to learn more about the fish and how many inhabit Canadian waters.
