HEMIMASTIGOTE

A rare microscopic organism discovered in a dirt sample from the Five Bridge Lakes Wilderness Area west of Halifax. A study on hemimastigotes co-authored by Alastair Simpson, biology professor at Dalhousie University, says these organisms are so different from anything else on Earth that their closest relatives lived about a billion years ago.
