Milkweed memories

In the March/ April issue, there was an article about the monarch butterfly and milkweed (Discovery “Infographic”) and I was interested to read that milkweed silk is being used to line parkas. When I was in elementary school during World War Two, we used to be given bags and were sent out to gather milkweed pods. We were told that the silk was used in life jackets for the military. We were pleased to be part of the war effort.
