Newsham fire pumper
This Newsham re pumper was built in and is believed to be the oldest device of its kind in Canada. Patented in the s by Richard Newsham, the machine had levers and treadles that pumped water through a metal tank and out of a pipe, shooting a continuous stream of water up to metres to extinguish res. Nova Scotia’s Shelburne Chamber of Commerce bought the contraption in and used it until the mid s, when it was retired from service.
