Newsham fire pumper

This Newsham re pumper was built in and is believed to be the oldest device of its kind in Canada. Patented in the  s by Richard Newsham, the machine had levers and treadles that pumped water through a metal tank and out of a pipe, shooting a continuous stream of water up to  metres to extinguish res. Nova Scotia’s Shelburne Chamber of Commerce bought the contraption in ‚ and used it until the mid ‚ s, when it was retired from service.
