Dare to Use the Dishwasher

This appliance can effectively cleanse so much more than dishes. Here are a few examples (just be sure to wash them separately!).

• Hairbrushes and combs: Remove hair; place in silverware caddy. Wash on normal cycle.

• Children’s and pet toys: Include only plastic and rubber toys without electrical components; place on top rack (corral small pieces in mesh laundry bag). Opt for natural dishwasher detergent; wash on disinfecting cycle.

• Baseball caps: Secure over prongs of top rack with clothespin. Choose bleach-free dishwasher detergent; forgo the dry cycle (air-dry instead).
