The pros and cons of popular facial hair removal methods

- TEXT MARIÈVE INOUE

Electrolysis

What is it? Electrolysis involves a professional inserting a filament into the follicle of each hair and passing a small electrical current through it to destroy the root. As this method is done hair by hair, this treatment can be time-consuming. However, it works regardless of the thickness or colour of your hair.

Does it hurt? The sensation is like an elastic snapping your skin. Redness and small bumps resembling small mosquito bites can appear post-treatment, but usually subside quickly. Cost: $$$

Frequency: This method eventually removes the hair permanently after a few years, but the number of sessions required varies from person to person. Each session can last up to an hour, and needs to be repeated about every three weeks.
