Health hack of the month SUN SMARTS

-

The longest day of the year is almost here and we’re sure you’re more than ready to get outside. But ultraviolet radiation from the sun can damage the skin, causing cancer and premature aging, so make sure you’re practicing sun safety. If the UV Index Forecast is 3 or higher—even when skies are cloudy—you need protection. Apply a broad spectrum sunblock with an SPF 30 or higher 15 to 30 minutes before heading outdoors and reapply every two hours. Limit sun exposure between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., take shelter in the shade and always bring an umbrella to the beach. Protect your skin by wearing lightcoloured, long-sleeved clothing and a widebrimmed hat made from breathable materials. And don’t forget your sunglasses!
