SUCCESSFUL CONTAINER GARDENING PLANTING

-

TIPS TO HELP YOU START AND MAINTAIN YOUR PLANTERS.

Each planter must have one or more drainage holes (if not, simply drill them). Then place a piece of newspaper or a coffee filter at the bottom of the pot to cover the hole, allowing excess water to drain out while keeping the soil in place.

No drainage layer is necessary— just fill the container with potting soil up to 10 centimetres from the top. Mix in a handful of all-purpose, slow-release granular fertilizer.

Remove the plants from their original pots and set them in the planter, spacing them evenly. The tallest plant should be placed in the centre with the others all around. Fill the space between the root balls with potting soil.

Water abundantly. This will compact the soil a little, so if it settles too much and the top of the root ball is exposed, just add a little more potting soil.
