Health hack of the month HEALTH LITERACY
According to the Canadian Public Health Association, 60 percent of Canadian adults are not health literate. Good health literacy is the ability to access, understand, evaluate, communicate and use health-related information to make appropriate decisions. Perhaps now, more than ever, we can appreciate its importance, and how accessing health information online can create challenges for patients navigating the health-care system. Low health literacy rates often result in poorer health outcomes and increased health-care costs. October is Health Literacy Month, so it’s the perfect time to learn more about managing your own health and taking care of your loved ones. To learn more check out: cpha.ca or uhn.ca.
