FROM THE EDITORS
Oh hey there, Beautiful! That’s right, May, we’re looking at you, with your bright skies and your colourful flowers. We are sooooo happy to see you again!
We’ll admit it: We love the month of May. No offense, December, but oftentimes we think this is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s a time of soft breezes, scented blooms, shorter skirts and sandals, meals al fresco and beers on the patio. Plus, the long weekend that marks the beginning of Canada’s warmweather season—more, please!
For this month of sun-kissed enthusiasm, we’ve filled these pages with stories, products and ideas that help to usher in a fresh-faced new outlook, both physical and mental.
In our Fashion & Beauty section, for example, we offer up ways to eliminate dark under-eye circles, get lustrous locks and sport the latest comfy and colourful athleisure pieces, whether you’re staying in or venturing out for a walk around the neighbourhood.
Our Life & Community section features an interview with Anishinaabe artist and activist Sarain Fox, whose documentary film, Inendi, is available to stream on CBC Gem. The film focuses on the life of Fox’s great-aunt Mary Bell, and explores the ideas of loss, love and the legacy of family, women in particular. It’s an inspirational tribute that reminds us all to listen, really listen, to the elders in our lives. How fitting for the month when we honour our moms! We follow that up with a primer on obtaining—and keeping—inner calm in uncertain times (we all need some of that, right?), while our Home & Garden articles include quick fixes to update your abode as well as steps to starting a veggie garden.
If that’s not enough, take a boo at our Cook & Eat stories this issue. We guarantee you won’t be able to resist the delicious dishes made with just-picked in-season veggies and herbs, or the tantalizing sweet and savoury pastry recipes that tempt the taste buds.
Whatever you do this month, we’re sure the forecast is for clear and sunny skies ahead.
