REEBOK FLOATRIDE FAST PRO 100 G

Recommended for races up to a 21K

The 100 G shoe was put to the test under harsh conditions at this year's Boston Marathon, and it seems to have weathered the storm well on the feet of two top-10 finishers in Tyler Pennel and Nicole Dimercurio.

Seemingly brought forth from the future, the 100 G actually weighs in at a feathery 99 grams and leverages Reebok's proprietary Floatride foam technology for a dash of cushioning and bounce in the midsole. In short, this is one hella fast pair of kicks that also fit like a glove. While ideal for letting loose in shorter road races and training runs up to half-marathon distances, proceed with caution at longer lengths unless you're a seasoned distance runner who’s comfortable trading minimal support for maximum speed.

BROOKS LEVITATE 2

Recommended for medium-to-heavy mileage

From one of the world’s most respected running brands comes a impressive statement in the Levitate 2, which Brooks says has the greatest energy return in the market. We believe it.

The Levitate 2 is on the heavier side, at 318 grams (in men’s, 275 grams in women’s), but has a number of features that compensate for its weight.

The DNA AMP midsole provides the The Levitate 2’s ample energy return, aided by an arrow-point pattern on the outsole for speedy transition from heel to toe; it’s a comfortable ride as well, with plenty of room for a variety of foot shapes, including a wider toe box up front and roomy collar at the heel.

All told, this is a fast, comfortable shoe despite its relative heft.

HOKA CLIFTON 5

Recommended for heavy mileage

With the Clifton 5, Hoka takes a leap for forward for those in the market for a comfortable neutral shoe.

Hoka's updated the shoe’s midsole, which is now noticeably softer than previous versions. The Clifton 5 also comes with a sockliner that molds nicely around the foot.

The re-engineered mesh in the upper makes the Clifton 5 flexible and breathable as well. Hoka also enhanced the shoe’s durability, with an outsole made of tough rubber.

The Clifton 5 is a strong choice for neutral pronators looking for a fast, comfortable shoe that’s built to last.— CR
