Ben Flana­gan be­came t he f irst Cana­dian ever to win the Fal­mouth Road Race i n Fal­mouth, Mass., on Au­gust 19, in 32:21. He bested Scott Fauble and Olympian Leonard Kori, who fin­ished sec­ond and third.

The seven-mile course draws huge fields of Olympians, elites, and recreat ional run­ners to com­pete along­side one an­other.

Flana­gan had a b r e a kthrough 2018 sum­mer sea­son. Ev­ery­thing changed af­ter his come-from-be­hind win in the ncaa 10,000m f inal, where he sur­prised fans. “The ncaa’s changed my run­ning ca­reer,” Flana­gan says. “It gave me a con­fi­dence greater than I’ve ever dreamed of. I’m a lot more com­fort­able ad­mit­ting my goals out loud and em­brac­ing them as a re­al­ity.”— CR
