The Warmup
Seven weeks after narrowly missing gold at the World HalfMarathon Championships to Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda, Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie demolished the world half-marathon record in Valencia, Spain, running a blazing 57:32. Kandie is the first man ever to run a sub-58 half-marathon, and his time lowered Geoffrey Kamworor’s previous record (set just last year in Copenhagen) by a whopping 29 seconds. Kiplimo finished second. It was bronze medallist Rhonex Kipruto’s first halfmarathon, and his 57:49 performance was also under the previous WR, making it the fastest debut ever recorded.
