National shot put champion and Liverpool, N.S. native Sarah Mitton admits to some ambivalence about her run training; she runs three times a week for six to eight weeks in the fall. Her coach incorporates running as a key component of circuit training, but more for conditioning than speed. “The hardest running workout is a circuit situation,” Mitton says. “We run about 100 metres, with an exercise at either end of the field or track, so you’re constantly running back and forth. We run for a total of up to two kilometres. Usually once I finish the workout, I’m proud of myself, and I think, That wasn’t so bad!”
