New study asks what Albertans think of beavers

-

The Cows and Fish Society, Miistakis Institute and Mount Royal University have partnered to survey Alberta landowners on their beaver knowledge and attitudes. The organizations want to help keep beavers on the land. Information from the online survey, which took place over the summer, will help the organizations to develop educational materials and outreach strategies to help landowners deal with the rodents.

Beavers cause a lot of damage, Miistakis executive director Danah Duke said. But they also play a key role in ecosystems. “In order for people to be able to coexist with beavers,” she said, “we need to be able to manage beavers.”
