Habitat loss was behind barren-ground caribou declines all along

Canadian Wildlife - - DISPATCHES -

A new study from researchers at three Canadian universities has found that the dramatic declines in barren-ground caribou herds observed in the Canadian North can be attributed to a rise in mining due to open access policies, rather than subsistence hunting by Indigenous people. Some herds have declined by as much as 70 per cent.
