Invasion of the giant hogweed

Canadian Wildlife - - DISPATCHES -

The government is warning people to beware this invasive species, but giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) has effects on the environment too. Its sap is toxic to humans and can burn or even blind them, but this extra-tall weed also does damage to ecosystems and erodes river banks by crowding out smaller native plants.
