The elusive bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis), captured on film near Jasper, Alberta. Photo by contest entrant Brad Mcblain
This Rocky Mountain bighorn was captured on film by photographer Brad Mcblain near Jasper, Alberta. Because they are so agile — they bound up a steep incline rather than walk or climb—and thanks to their amazingly acute eyesight with which they can survey the distant surroundings and see predators from more than a kilometre away, these sheep are very elusive. Like many images in the magazine, this was originally submitted to the Canadian Wildlife Federation photo contest. Visit to enter monthly and annual competitions.
